About Giselle
Shanghai Ballet returns to North America for the first time in more than five years with Giselle, one of the most beloved story ballets in the classical canon. Since its 1841 premiere, Giselle has captivated audiences around the world with its haunting tale of love, betrayal, and grief.
Shanghai Ballet’s interpretation highlights the company’s hallmarks: pristine technique, unified ensemble work, and emotionally vivid storytelling. From the sunlit village scenes of Act I to the ghostly, moonlit world of the Wilis, the production unfolds with elegance, atmosphere, and lyrical beauty. The result is a Giselle that is both technically exquisite and deeply moving.
