A Musical Tribute to Zakir Hussain – Uniting Traditions, Celebrating a Legend

Join us on Sunday, May 4th, at 6 PM for a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Zakir Hussain. Co-presented by the Indo-American Arts Council and Tilles Center at the Krasnoff Theater, this special evening brings together the rich traditions of Hindustani and Carnatic classical music in celebration of his life and enduring legacy. Featuring an extraordinary lineup—Rakesh Chaurasia and Shashank Subramanyam on flute, Anubrata Chatterjee on tabla, and Parupalli Phalgun on mridangam—this concert will be a stirring homage to a maestro who inspired generations.

Rakesh Chaurasia: A Grammy Award-winning flautist, Rakesh Chaurasia is one of the most celebrated names in Indian classical music today. Nephew and disciple of the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, he masterfully blends tradition with innovation, captivating audiences worldwide with his soulful bansuri performances.

Shashank Subramanyam: A Grammy-nominated flautist, Shashank Subramanyam is renowned for his expertise in Indian classical music, seamlessly bridging Carnatic and Hindustani traditions. With his intricate improvisations and collaborations with global artists, he continues to push the boundaries of flute music.

Anubrata Chatterjee: A distinguished tabla maestro, Anubrata Chatterjee carries forward the rich legacy of his father, the legendary Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. Known for his precision and dynamic performances, he has enthralled audiences worldwide with his deep rhythmic understanding and artistry.
 

Parupalli Phalgun: A versatile mridangam artist, Parupalli Phalgun is recognized for his exceptional rhythmic skills and contributions to Indian classical music. Having accompanied some of the most revered musicians, he is celebrated for his ability to blend tradition with contemporary interpretations.
